Description

Ingredients

  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded gruyere cheese
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper


Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium low heat and melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add onions, garlic, salt, and pepper, then cook slowly for about 20 minutes until caramelized.
  2. Stir in beef broth and thyme, then cook until the liquid reduces and onions are rich and glossy.
  3. Heat another skillet over medium heat and add remaining butter.
  4. Place shredded mozzarella and gruyere cheese on one slice of bread, add caramelized onions, then top with more cheese and another slice of bread.
  5. Grill the sandwich until golden brown on both sides and the cheese is fully melted.
  6. Remove from heat, let rest briefly, then slice and serve warm.
