Description

A quick cookout favorite made with spiral-cut hot dogs, crisp lettuce, soft buns, and tangy yellow mustard.


Ingredients

  • 6 beef hot dogs
  • 6 hot dog buns
  • 6 small romaine lettuce leaves, washed and dried
  • 6 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon neutral oil, if cooking in a skillet or grill pan
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, optional


Instructions

  1. Heat a grill, grill pan, or skillet over medium heat.
  2. Place the hot dogs on a cutting board and season lightly with black pepper if using.
  3. Brush the skillet or grill pan with 1 teaspoon neutral oil if needed.
  4. Carefully cut each hot dog in a spiral pattern by turning it while making shallow diagonal cuts around it.
  5. Cook the hot dogs for 6 to 8 minutes, turning often, until browned and lightly crisp on the edges.
  6. Toast the buns for 1 to 2 minutes, then place one lettuce leaf inside each bun.
  7. Add one cooked hot dog to each bun, drizzle each with 1 tablespoon mustard, and serve warm.

  • Keep the spiral cuts shallow so the hot dogs stay intact.
