Description

This homemade vanilla pudding is creamy, comforting, and packed with rich vanilla flavor. It’s an easy dessert made with pantry staples and perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups whole milk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract


Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks until smooth.
  3. When the milk mixture is warm (not boiling), ladle a small amount into the yolks while whisking constantly. Return the yolk mixture to the saucepan.
  4. Continue to cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and begins to bubble.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract until fully melted and incorporated.
  6. Pour the pudding into serving dishes. Cover with plastic wrap directly on the surface to prevent skin from forming.
  7. Chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
