Description

A comforting classic made with rich ground lamb, tender vegetables, and creamy mashed potatoes baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500 grams ground lamb
  • 1 kg potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 2 medium carrots, diced
  • 1 cup peas
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C.
  2. Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, then drain and mash with butter and milk until smooth.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet, sauté onion and garlic until fragrant, then add ground lamb and cook until browned.
  4. Stir in carrots, peas, tomato paste, beef broth, salt, black pepper, and thyme, then let the mixture simmer until slightly thickened.
  5. Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish and spread the mashed potatoes evenly on top.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes until the top is golden and slightly crisp.
  7. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use warm milk for smoother mashed potatoes.
  • Rough up the potato topping for a crispier finish.
