Description

- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 tsp white vinegar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp red food coloring
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with liners.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, combine sugar, oil, egg, buttermilk, vinegar, food coloring, and vanilla.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, mixing until just combined.
- Divide batter into cupcake liners, filling each 2/3 full.
- Bake for 18–20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
- For frosting, beat butter and cream cheese until smooth. Add powdered sugar and beat until fluffy.
- Frost cupcakes once they are fully cooled and decorate as desired.
Notes
- Use gel food coloring for richer color without thinning the batter.
- Make sure ingredients are at room temperature for best texture.
- Chill frosting slightly for easier piping.
