Description

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • For the Caramel Filling:
  • 1 (14 oz) bag caramel candies, unwrapped
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Add flour and salt, and mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Press two-thirds of the dough into the prepared pan to form an even layer. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove from the oven.
  5. While the base is baking, melt the caramel candies with heavy cream in a saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth. Add a pinch of sea salt if desired.
  6. Pour the caramel mixture evenly over the partially baked crust.
  7. Crumble the remaining dough over the caramel layer.
  8. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden and the caramel is bubbly.
  9. Cool completely before slicing into bars. For clean cuts, chill slightly before slicing.

  • Add a pinch of flaky sea salt on top for a salted caramel variation.
