Description

Crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside, these homemade mozzarella sticks are the ultimate cheesy snack. Perfect for dipping into marinara sauce and devoured in seconds.


Ingredients

  • 12 mozzarella cheese sticks (cut from a block of whole milk mozzarella)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups Italian breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup marinara sauce (for dipping)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying


Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare three bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  3. Dip each mozzarella stick in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs. Repeat the egg and breadcrumb step for extra crunch.
  4. Place the coated sticks on the baking sheet and freeze for at least 1 hour.
  5. Fry in small batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown. Remove and place on paper towels to drain.
  6. Sprinkle with a bit of salt while hot and serve with warm marinara sauce.

Notes

  • Freeze the sticks before frying to prevent cheese from leaking.
  • Use whole milk mozzarella for the best stretch and melt.
  • Air fryer option: cook at 400°F for 6–8 minutes.
