  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 cups beef or vegetable broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish
  • Grated Parmesan or feta cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic; sauté until translucent.
  2. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce, cinnamon, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Add orzo pasta and broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low.
  5. Cover and cook for 15 minutes or until the orzo is tender and liquid is absorbed, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. Remove from heat and let sit covered for 5 minutes.
  7. Garnish with fresh parsley and sprinkle with cheese if desired before serving.
