Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 tablespoons plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
- 3/4 cup warm water
- Optional: minced garlic, chopped cilantro, or nigella seeds for topping
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder.
- Add yogurt and olive oil, mixing until crumbly.
- Gradually add warm water and knead into a soft, elastic dough for about 8-10 minutes.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 1-2 hours.
- Divide the dough into 6 equal balls and roll each into an oval or round shape about 1/4 inch thick.
- Preheat a grill pan or outdoor grill to medium-high heat.
- Place the rolled dough on the grill and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side or until puffed and charred spots appear.
- Optional: brush with melted butter and sprinkle with minced garlic or cilantro before serving.
Notes
- Use plain yogurt for the best texture and flavor.
- Grilling imparts a smoky flavor, but naan can also be cooked on a hot skillet or tandoor if available.
- Serve warm with your favorite curry or chutney.
