Ingredients
Scale
- 8 slices thick-sliced brioche or challah bread
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 2 tablespoons butter (for frying)
- 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
- 1/4 cup maple syrup or honey
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for sauce)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Heat your skillet or griddle over medium heat.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, orange zest, and a pinch of salt.
- Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in the skillet.
- Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture, let soak briefly, and place in skillet.
- Cook each slice for 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crisp.
- In a saucepan, combine orange juice, maple syrup, and butter. Simmer for 3–5 minutes until slightly thickened.

Notes
- Use slightly stale bread to prevent sogginess.
- Warm the syrup before pouring for best texture.
- Top with berries or whipped cream for added flair.
