Description

A zesty and luxurious twist on a brunch classic, French Toast Suzette combines soft custard-soaked bread with a vibrant orange glaze. Golden, buttery, and irresistibly citrusy — it’s the perfect balance of comfort and elegance.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices thick-sliced brioche or challah bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for frying)
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup or honey
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (for sauce)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Heat your skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, orange zest, and a pinch of salt.
  3. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in the skillet.
  4. Dip each slice of bread into the custard mixture, let soak briefly, and place in skillet.
  5. Cook each slice for 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crisp.
  6. In a saucepan, combine orange juice, maple syrup, and butter. Simmer for 3–5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  7. Serve toast stacked with warm syrup drizzled over top and garnish with orange zest.

Notes

  • Use slightly stale bread to prevent sogginess.
  • Warm the syrup before pouring for best texture.
  • Top with berries or whipped cream for added flair.
