Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large green cabbage
- 500 grams ground beef
- 1 cup cooked white rice
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 cup diced tomatoes
- 1 cup vegetable broth
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 0.5 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C and bring a large pot of water to a boil.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, cooked rice, onion, garlic, paprika, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper until evenly mixed.
- Heat olive oil in a pan, then add tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, vegetable broth, and cayenne pepper. Let it simmer for a few minutes.
- Carefully peel cabbage leaves and blanch them in boiling water until soft and flexible.
- Place filling into each cabbage leaf and roll tightly, folding in the sides.
- Arrange the rolls in a baking dish and pour the sauce evenly over them.
- Cover and bake for 45 minutes.
- Uncover and bake for an additional 10 minutes to slightly thicken the sauce.
- Remove from oven, let rest briefly, then serve warm with extra sauce.
Notes
- Do not overfill the cabbage rolls to keep them intact during cooking.
- Blanching the cabbage properly makes rolling much easier.
- Adjust cayenne pepper based on your preferred spice level.
- Let the dish rest before serving for better texture and flavor.
