Description

Juicy meatballs simmered in a smoky chipotle cream sauce, tucked into toasted hoagie rolls and topped with gooey melted cheese for a comforting sub that packs a punch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 large Egg
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1/2 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 2 Chipotle Peppers in Adobo, minced
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream
  • 1/2 cup Chicken Broth
  • 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese, shredded
  • 4 large Hoagie Rolls
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (optional)
  • Fresh Cilantro or Parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F for toasting the buns or melting the cheese.
  2. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic, onion, salt, and pepper. Form into 1½-inch meatballs.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat, add oil, and brown the meatballs on all sides for 6-8 minutes.
  4. Add chipotle peppers, cream, and chicken broth to the skillet. Simmer for 10 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Slice hoagie rolls and toast in the oven for 5 minutes. Optional: brush with butter before toasting.
  6. Spoon meatballs into buns, top with mozzarella, and broil for 2-3 minutes until cheese is melted and golden.
  7. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use gloves when handling chipotle peppers to avoid irritation.
  • Make meatballs ahead and store in the fridge or freezer.
