Description

These cinnamon sugar scones are flaky, buttery, and kissed with warm spice. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a cozy afternoon treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 2/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold cubed butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and egg.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir just until a dough forms.
  6. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and gently shape into a circle about 1 inch thick.
  7. Cut into 8 wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Sprinkle the tops with cinnamon sugar.
  9. Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

  • Use very cold butter to ensure flaky layers.
  • Don’t overmix the dough or the scones may become tough.
  • For extra richness, brush the tops with cream before sprinkling with cinnamon sugar.
