- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 18–20 maraschino cherries, drained and patted dry
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a soft dough forms.
- Scoop dough into balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Gently press one maraschino cherry into the center of each cookie.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes until set but still soft.
- Allow cookies to cool completely.
- Whisk powdered sugar with milk to form a smooth icing and drizzle over cooled cookies.

- Pat cherries dry to avoid excess moisture.
- Do not overbake to keep cookies soft.
- Icing can be adjusted thicker or thinner by adding more or less milk.
