- 1 lb potato gnocchi
- 1 lb ground beef or pork
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 1/2 cup red wine (optional)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Olive oil for cooking
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
- Cook the gnocchi according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the onion and garlic until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the ground beef or pork and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and fully cooked.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine (if using), oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes to let the sauce thicken and flavors combine.
- Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet with the bolognese sauce, stirring gently to combine.
- Transfer the gnocchi mixture to the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the top with shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the top is golden brown.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm!
Notes
- For a creamier dish, add 1/2 cup of heavy cream to the bolognese sauce before baking.
- Make it ahead: You can assemble the dish up to 1 day in advance and refrigerate it before baking.
- Top with fresh basil or parsley for a pop of color and flavor.
