Ingredients

  • 4 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 ½ cups grated gruyere cheese
  • 2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C.
  2. In a large skillet, heat butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions, salt, and pepper, then cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until caramelized and golden.
  3. Line a baking sheet or tart pan with parchment paper and place the puff pastry on top.
  4. Spread the caramelized onions evenly over the pastry. Sprinkle grated gruyere cheese and thyme over the top.
  5. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbling.
  6. Remove from oven and let it cool slightly before slicing.
