Description

Soft baked buns filled with a savory cabbage mixture that turns tender and flavorful in the oven. These fluffy homemade buns are comforting, budget friendly, and perfect for lunch, dinner, or a satisfying snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cups green cabbage, finely shredded
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Equipment: Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy. Add flour, salt, and vegetable oil and knead until a soft dough forms.
  3. Prepare Your Cooking Vessel: Heat a skillet over medium heat with a small amount of oil. Add onion and garlic and cook until fragrant.
  4. Assemble the Dish: Add shredded cabbage, soy sauce, and black pepper to the skillet and cook for about 5 minutes until cabbage softens. Allow filling to cool slightly. Divide dough into portions, flatten each piece, place filling in the center, then seal to form buns.
  5. Cook to Perfection: Place the buns on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 18 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Finishing Touches: Allow buns to cool for a few minutes after baking so the filling settles.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Serve warm and enjoy the soft bread with the savory cabbage filling.

Notes

  • Finely shred the cabbage so it cooks evenly and fits easily inside the dough.
  • Do not overfill the buns to prevent them from opening during baking.
  • Allow the filling to cool slightly before assembling the buns.
  • For extra shine brush the tops lightly with vegetable oil before baking.
