Description
Baguette French Toast is a deliciously crisp-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside breakfast dish made from day-old baguette slices soaked in a spiced egg and milk mixture, then pan-fried to golden perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 day-old baguette (about 11-13 ounces)
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon Kosher or sea salt
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2/3 cup whole milk
- 1-2 tablespoons butter, for cooking
- 1-2 tablespoons neutral-flavored oil, for cooking (canola recommended)
Instructions
- Slice the baguette into 1-inch thick pieces.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, cinnamon, sugar, salt, vanilla extract, and milk until fully combined.
- Heat butter and oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Dip each baguette slice into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are coated but not soaked through.
- Place coated slices onto the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove from skillet and keep warm while cooking remaining slices.
- Serve immediately with syrup, powdered sugar, fresh fruit, or your preferred toppings.
Notes
- Using day-old bread prevents sogginess and ensures better texture.
- Adjust cinnamon and sugar to taste for sweeter or spicier flavor.
- Neutral oil helps prevent burning while butter adds flavor.
- Can be made ahead and reheated in the oven for a quick breakfast.
