Description

Asian Inspired Cube Steak is a flavorful and tender steak dish marinated with a combination of rice vinegar, soy sauce, honey, and aromatic spices, then simmered in French onion soup for a savory and slightly sweet finish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 to 2.5 lbs tenderized cube steak
  • 1 medium sweet onion, sliced
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five spice
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/4 cup seasoned rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons bead molasses
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire powder
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 can Campbell’s French onion soup

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, Chinese five spice, and white pepper. Rub the spice mixture evenly over the cube steaks.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together rice vinegar, soy sauce, bead molasses, Worcestershire powder, and honey to create the marinade.
  3. Place the seasoned cube steaks in the marinade and let sit for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for more flavor.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the cube steaks on both sides until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add sliced onions and sauté until softened.
  6. Add French onion soup and the reserved marinade to the skillet. Bring to a simmer.
  7. Return the cube steaks to the skillet, cover, and simmer on low for 25–30 minutes until steaks are tender and flavors are well combined.
  8. Serve hot with rice, noodles, or your favorite sides.

Notes

  • For extra tenderness, marinate the cube steak overnight in the refrigerator.
  • Adjust honey or molasses for a sweeter or less sweet flavor.
  • This dish pairs well with steamed vegetables or stir-fried greens.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated gently.
